Thousands of Twitter users have been hit by a nasty bug today.
We’re not talking about runny noses or sore throats, but a bug of the technical flavour.
If your Twitter stream was plastered with black boxes today, this is the reason why.
The bug allows a naughty piece of JavaScript to be executed when users mouseover the text. This then instructs your computer to take you to either NSFW (not safe for work) Websites or malware infested sites. Naughty, naughty.
Limited to browsers
Adrian Kingsley-Hughes of ZDNet reported that the problem only affected users accessing the service through the main Twitter.com websites.
It appears that Mobile Twitter site (mobile.twitter.com) and third-party clients such as TweetDeck are unaffected at the moment.
Fix now in place
WebUser confirmed a few minutes ago that Twitter have fixed the bug and that it’s now safe to return to Twitter.
