An open decks event held in February by Isle of Wight DJ and ambulance service Emergency Care Assistant Paul Barrett – who performs as DJ Moomin – has led to real bookings for two of its participants.
Paul launched the not-for-profit event series earlier this year to give aspiring DJs the confidence to move from practising at home to performing in a club setting.
Debut bookings secured
Reflecting on the February event, Paul said,
“We had a nice turnout to the event, all the DJs who took part gave it their all.
“The event was a success.”
Two of those participants have since secured their first professional bookings.
A DJ known as JWM Music makes his debut at The Wheatsheaf Lounge in Newport this Saturday, 30th May.

A second participant, Jase (pictured below), performs his debut set for Fruitylicious on 25th July at The Pavilion in Ryde.

The event also features DJ Moomin, Neurofire, Ronnie Pakes, Matt Wrigglesworth, JMW Music.
Tickets are £5 and can be booked in advance.
Another open decks planned
Paul confirmed that the series will continue, saying,
“On the back of the open decks we will be putting on another one later on in the year.
“Hoping to reach out and help more new DJs.”
The original launch of the initiative received coverage on OnTheWight earlier this year.
