Sandown and Lake U13s v Eastleigh Juniors Youth U13s
On a fine Sunday afternoon in front of 60 spectators the game started at a great pace with the game being dominated by both midfield teams.
On nine minutes, Jack Youngson was able to pull away from the midfield and at 23 yards he spotted the Eastleigh goalkeeper off of his line and on his non favoured left foot Youngson hit the ball high and the goalkeeper spilled it to let it go into the back of the net.
It stayed this way for 25 minutes with the possession going mainly to the away team but with some fine defending they managed to lock out Eastliegh. However on 34 minutes Eastleigh were awarded a free kick 25 yards out. The kick was hit hard and high but Liam Suckling (Sandown’s goalkeeper) managed to get a finger to it so that the ball deflected onto the crossbar, but was hit in after a goalmouth scramble for the away team to equalise on 24 minutes.
Half time score
Sandown and Lake 1 – 1 Eastleigh Juniors Youth
The second half started pretty much how the first half finished but possession was equal in midfield. Sandown’s defence was kept in check by a fine performance from Lewis Askey. Eastleigh’s pressure paid off with a well driven long low kick passed the left of Suckling on 52 minutes.
Sandown came back fighting from the kick off and after 57 minutes Josh Gulseven took the ball at the edge of the penalty area and hit the ball at the goal for the keeper to save it, but the ball was deemed by the referee as being over the line.
After pressure from Eastleigh, Sandown’s defence held on to the end to take the game into Extra time.
Full time score
Sandown 2 – 2 Eastleigh
The game restarted but it was a very tense affair with neither team getting the break that they needed until in the 79th minute when Youngson side-footed the ball from 20 yards and placed it in the top of the net. It remained 3-2 for the rest of the first half of extra time.
In the second half of Extra time Eastleigh piled on the pressure from the kick off but they were not a match for Youngson as he once again kicked the ball over the keeper for his third goal of the match to make the score 4-2.
Eastleigh seemed to be disheartened by this but their star defender was pushed up front and on 89 minutes he made a very strong run and kicked the ball low and hard into the net giving Suckling no chance.
Eastleigh tried in vane to put more pressure onto the Sandown defence and it seemed like an eternity before the referee finally blew the whistle for the end of the game.
The final score
Sandown and Lake U13s 4 -3 Eastleigh Juniors Youth U13s.
The man of the match was a very tough decision for Sandown’s coach Jamie McInnes as there were 17 players all playing there hearts out but because of the way the defence were being managed and the fact he was strong in defence himself Lewis Askey was awarded the Man of the Match.
