What’s the most common photo you see of UKIP leader, Nigel Farage? Him with a pint of beer in his hand.
Hoping to cash in on this is the prospective Isle of Wight UKIP candidate Iain McKie with the launch of the UKIP-branded ‘EU Freedom Ale’.
Produced by Goddards
The 4% bitter, brewed on the Island by Goddards, has the phizog of Mr Farage grinning away on the label, with a UKIP and the strap-line ‘Isle drink to that’ in bubbles floating around his head.
OnTheWight got in touch with his-Farage-ness, who said,
“Great stuff from the good brewers of Goddards and a bit of fun. I will certainly be having some next time I’m on the Island.”
Goddards: “It’s not political”
OnTheWight spoke to Patrick Bierley, Managing Director of Goddards, who was clear that it was a commercial relationship with UKIP, not a Political one – “Frankly if the Communist Party came to me, I’d be happy.” He continued, “I also hope the Labour Party and the Conservatives will be contacting me shortly to fulfil their beer drinking requirements.”
Saturday launch
It’s due to launch on Saturday on the Island, but the details have leaked out through UKIP Daily.
Update 16:32: Added quote from Goddards’ MD.
