This in from Iain McKie, UKIP PPC. In his words – Ed.
UKIP Isle of Wight Parliamentary Candidate Iain McKie has challenged Conservative candidate Andrew Turner to face him in a head-to-head debate.
Medina Theatre
Scheduled for the evening of 19th April at Newport’s Medina Theatre, the proposed debate is intended to give the two frontrunners for Isle of Wight MP the chance to discuss the key issues affecting Islanders. With odds on a UKIP victory as low as 3/1, it seems inevitable that either Turner or McKie will triumph on 7th May.
“Turner’s recent absence from public life”
McKie has issued this challenge following Turner’s recent absence from public life, and his noted absence from the Isle of Wight College’s youth-centred ‘Twestion Time’ digital debate last month. McKie’s challenge includes the added offer of not only a pre-booked venue but paid transportation for Turner both to and from the debate.
The debate will allow both candidates to discuss crucial matters such as how they would fix the Island’s transport system, the Island’s health system and local unemployment.
420 capacity
The Medina Theatre venue holds up to 420 guests. Entry to the event will be free to the public with the suggested donation of £1, to be split between the Isle of Wight Youth Trust and the Isle of Wight Hospice.
Following the outstanding demand for the IWCP’s Hustings Event on 29th April, McKie is hopeful that Turner will accept the challenge, giving voters the chance to put the two leading candidates on the spot.
