OnTheWight has been informed today (Monday 1st July) that some staff at UKSA, the sailing academy based in Cowes, may be at risk of redundancy.
Letters were apparently sent to staff on Friday informing them the consultation period would start next week.
UKSA Chief Executive, Richard Thornton, told OnTheWight,
“I can regrettably confirm that a small number of our employees will enter a consultation process for redundancy early next week. We currently wouldn’t expect the process to affect more than 10% of our permanent workforce.
“The consultation – and any subsequent selection – is based on need and affordability for the business and has been brought about by lower-than-expected sales for the first four months of our financial year, which began 1st February. However, we are managing the sales situation closely and are confident it’s a short-term issue.
“We have no further comment to make at this time because, out of respect to the individuals concerned, consultation of this nature should always be a confidential matter.”
Our thoughts are with those staff affected.
