Unacceptable

Undercliff Drive: Leader of the council says delays are ‘unacceptable’

Following yesterday’s news the access road for landlocked residents on Undercliff Drive would not be built until post-August 2016, the leader of the Isle of Wight council has today spoken out about the delays.

Yesterday, Bill Murphy wrote to residents making it clear the promised access road to their landlocked properties would not be built until post-August 2016. This fact was skirted over in the press release issued by the council about the land swap and bat survey.

Cllr Bacon: Further delays “not acceptable”
However today, Cllr Jonathan Bacon, Leader of the Isle of Wight Council, said,

“The latest suggestion of further delays to the Undercliff Drive scheme is not acceptable to the administration and the council remains committed to delivering the promised vehicular access to the premises at Undercliff Drive.

“We have therefore instructed officers to identify at the earliest opportunity, alternative schemes which can be implemented without further delay and within the available budget.”

Why no mention at Executive?
Some Islanders are questioning why Executive members didn’t mention this serious delay when they were discussing Undercliff Drive and the Wildlife Trust land swap at Tuesday’s Executive meeting (see our coverage).
