Unusual Win For Freecycle on the Wight

Unusual Win For Freecycle on the WightYou may remember that we’ve sung the praises of the Isle of Wight Freecycle over the last few years. Quite rightly – it’s brilliant.

For those of you who have missed it, it’s a free online service that lets you advertise things that you want out of your house making them available for collection, going to a new home and importantly NOT going into a landfill.

Don’t forget kids, when people say “just throw it away,” there is no such place as ‘away’!

Freecycle feels like a small step towards Freeganism.

Speak to anyone who has used Freecyle and they’ll tell you that they love it. Not only do you shift your stuff, but you feel great at the same time, because you know that you’re helping people.

Even long shot Wanted ads
If you’ve done your bit in offering your items to people on Freecycle and the opportunity arises that you need something yourself, rather than go out and buy it, you can place a Wanted advert.

One we saw recently really made us think that they were on a long shot “WANTED: Aquarius Washing Machine DOOR.” What’s the chances of that? Someone having a spare washing machine door knocking around?

Oh ye of little faith!

Less than a day later Keith, who posted the original wanted message, let the Freecycle group know that not only had he received the part he needed but he’d fitted the darn thing too, curing his leakage!

He added that those who were interested in spare parts for the washing machine were welcome to pick from the pile of parts now available.

Amazing.

Freecycle’s brilliant isn’t it?
