Update of Isle of Wight Covid-19 figures: Deaths, hospitalisations, vaccinations and age breakdowns of positive tests

News OnTheWight shares a comprehensive update on deaths, hospitalisations, vaccinations and positives Covid-19 tests on the Isle of Wight.

Deaths
The Office for National Statistics report two new deaths took place during week 23 (deaths that occurred up to 10th June 2022, but were registered up to 18th June 2022), one in a care home and one in the hospice.

As of 10th June, the cumulative number of deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate on the Isle of Wight was 436 – a rise of 1 in the last two weeks.

As of 24th June 2022, the Government Dashboard records the total number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test was 401 – a rise of 1 in the last two weeks.

Covid patients in hospital
The Covid dashboard shows that as of 21st June the number of Covid-19 patients in hospital was 10 – a rise of 7 in the last fortnight.

The Government dashboard also reports that none of those Covid patients are relying on mechanical ventilation.

Vaccinations
The number of Covid-19 vaccinations given on the Isle of Wight totals 314,680.

The total number of people who have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, reported up to 23rd June 2022 was 113,696.

The total number of people who have received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine, reported up to 23rd June 2022 was 108,945.

The total number of people who have received a booster or third dose of Covid-19 vaccine, reported up to 23rd June 2022 was 92,039.

Confirmed positive cases
The latest confirmed data for the number of new positive Coronavirus (Covid-19) tests over seven days (17th-23rd June) on the Isle of Wight totals 379 (a rise of 264 in last two weeks) – a rate per 100,000 population of 268.79.

71 of those are thought to be reinfections (ie. people who have had Covid before and caught it again).

The cumulative total since the pandemic began now stands at 41,343 (a rise of 606 in the last two weeks) – a rate per 100,000 population of 29,321.28.

Age breakdown
The table below shows the breakdown of positive Covid-19 tests over the last week for under 20s, 20-59 year olds and 60+ compared to the previous week.

Sharp increase in Covid Test figures over last week! There’s a surprise! What on Earth could have caused that? The Island Festival? Of course not; just a blip!

As they stopped ‘Free’ test kits being available how are they able to get accurate figures, a lot of people will feel a bit rough and no one will know if it is Covid related or not. And they may possible just carry on with shopping in crowded supermarkets and other things, restaraunts, pubs etc spreading it far and wide. It is quite possible that some of… Read more »

Ventnor Library had some (but I expect they have long since gone) I think they were free.

In life you sometimes have to take responsibility for your own and close family and friends health. The most sensible thing is to wear a mask in closed in environments when feasible. I still do along with many others, it is personal choice.

Not only has there been a sharp rise in Covid infections, the Island as of 23rd June has the highest recorded rate per head of any county in England. It must be remembered that each person’s personal choice has a direct impact not only on ourselves, but also on the health of others.

I don’t see how these figures can be remotely accurate, at least not the infections statistics. Hardly anyone is testing since the free test kits were stopped, and there’s no requirement to report an infection even if you do test. They are guesswork at best. Most of the vaccination centres are closed down or on very restricted hours, so there’s little chance of an increase in those… Read more »
