Yes, it really has been two years since our first entry on VentnorBlog about the controlled detonation of an WWII bomb in Ventnor Haven.
We were chuffed that the BBC were keen to use the footage and provided our first external link to the site.
One year on from then and we were able to make comparisons between that event and another potential destruction of the seafront, when the first application for the Mill Bay development was registered with the Planning Department.
Who would’ve thought that almost a year to the day, we’d still be discussing the that planning application? It seems that despite previous criticism of goings-on at the IW Council, members of the committee listened to the balanced arguments and took note of the valid reasons for objection. The Mill Bay Development was refused. Island media report that the developers are appealing, but general consensus is that they are not (very appealing that is).
Over the last two years we’ve had many guest writers who we’d like to thank and recognise. Jack Phoenix (a man who could write for England) shared at great length his experience of Bestival 2006, more recently, we’ve welcomed onboard Adel Jinnos, a woman who loves to eat out and doesn’t mind telling us what she thought. Her writing style is laced with humour and we can’t wait for her next instalment.
Tess keeps us up to date on what’s new down at the Library and the Ventnor Cricket Club have been kind enough to keep us informed of results and fixtures on a daily basis. April F. Ool had a bit of fun a few months back and who could forget Lord Ghome’s little ditty about Whitwell’s entry into the Guiness World of Records.
Gymnast extraordinaire, Sam Snudden shared his Wight Air experience, whilst Bestival ticket competition winner and VB regular, Mike Obsorne, told us what he got up to at Bestival 2007.
If you’ve got something to say that you think might fit in nicely on VB, send us an email. You never know, you might be on the roll call this time next year!
We have some great plans for VB over the coming months. Watch this space!
