Vectis Isle Pioneers complete 2015/16 championship

Thanks to Wayne for this report for the Vectis Isle Pioneers’ final round of the 2015/16 Championship at Knighton Sand Pit. Ed

The final round of the Vectis Isle Pioneers 2015/16 trials championship took place at Knighton Sandpit, near Newchurch on Sunday 27th March. The Club would like to thank Mr Roger Morgan for allowing us the use of this excellent venue.

We didn’t expect a big turnout over the Easter weekend – but for those who were able to make it the usual four laps of eight sections awaited. On behalf of all the riders I would like to say a special thank you to Howard Jacobs who conjured up eight clever and testing sections. The weather was kind too, the overnight rain cleared and with the exception of one or two showers remained dry.

Clear winner in Youth Class
Four Youth riders, class rivals Harrison Crickmore and Alfie Haydon did battle in the Youth Es. Harrison proved to be the clear winner here. Alfie undoubtedly hampered on his smaller wheeled machine.

Jos Wright chose to compete in the Twin Shock class and finished with a very respectable score of just forty-five marks – good effort by all three. Owen Moore was forced to retire following a gearbox problem.

Adult classes
The Club would like to welcome new member Paul West. Paul was the only competitor in the Adult Beginner class, but nevertheless did well to finish on a total of fifty-seven.

Meanwhile things were much closer in the Intermediates. The seemingly unstoppable Mark Coombes took the win with rivals Stuart Gummer and Geoff Taylor finishing in second and third respectively.

The Novice class was headed up by Wayne Brodie who managed to ‘paddle’ his way to another ten Championship points.

Brothers and relative newcomers Phil and Steve Chase finishing second and third, both getting better with every ride. Scott Milton riding in the Sportsman’s completed the trial with the second lowest score of the day – very well done Scott, good effort. The lowest score was achieved by Nick Symes (Twin Shock class) negotiating the tricky course losing just twelve marks with Stuart Freeman finishing someway off in second place.

Next meet
The next Club trial is due to take place on 24/04/16, probably at Nodewell Farm and will be the first round of the 2016/17 Championship.

However please check the Club’s website nearer the time for confirmation and the full details.
