Thanks to Andy for sending through the latest report from Vectis Motocross. In his own words with pictures by Allan Marsh. Ed
Sunday 25th saw yet another warm and dry day for the riders and spectators, this time gathered for the fifth round of the 2011 Club Championship, at Corve Farm, Chale Green.
It was good to see some of the newer club members lining up for the start of their first Adult Open Class race.
Hat trick for Nightingale
In what seems to be a habit this year, Lloyd Nightingale showed a clean pair of heels to the rest of the field, taking three wins in three races. It was by no means a walkover though, with Scott Webb, last year’s champion, following very closely behind in every race for second overall.
Will Reynolds was just pushed back to third in each race before a spectacular collision, in some very fierce racing, in the final heat, saw him have to retire hurt to St. Mary’s for repairs to an arm.
Adult Open Class
1st : Lloyd Nightingale 2nd : Scott Webb 3rd : Mitch Young.
In the MX1 Class, the larger engine capacity group, it was again a battle of the Suzukis, with Champion Scott Webb beating Will Reynolds and Perry Barnett scooping a third place in this heat.
MX1 Class
1st Scott Webb 2nd : Will Reynolds 3rd : Perry Barnett.
The MX2 heat saw the younger riders rule the roost, with Mitch Young taking a victory from Naz Jones and Joe Van Engel. The oldies filling most of the mid pack positions this week.

1st : Mitch Young 2nd : Naz Jones 3rd : Joe Van Engel.
Some of the fiercest racing of the day could be found in the 85cc Class heats. A couple of the riders in this group are showing that they’re ready to move up to the Adult Class next season and give their elders a scare. One of the riders was lucky to be riding, having had his bike stolen earlier in the week, but luckily recovered undamaged. It was Josh Corbett’s turn to take every win this round, ahead of his fellow class leaders Dan Hazlewood and young Daryl Biles.
85cc Class
1st : Josh Corbett 2nd : Dan Hazlewood 3rd : Daryl Biles.
The future club champions took to the track in the 65cc Class, with the first two places being taken by the same riders in each heat. Third and fourth positions though, changed hands in each heat, giving a glimpse of some of the skills being learnt by these young starters in this tough and exciting sport.
65cc Class
1st : Jordan Woodward 2nd : Jay Bell 3rd : Jake Wotherspoon 4th : Cory Hallett.
Next rounds
The next rounds will be on the 13th / 14th August at Corve Farm. It is free to view and new members of all ages are always welcome.
Volunteers to help out on race days are also needed. Follow the club on Facebook or at the VectisMX Website. Once again, many thanks to the Ambulance Service, the Landowner and all the committee and helpers for a great weekend’s racing.
