Ventnor Carnival week kicks off with exciting events and processions

Today (Monday) marks the start of Ventnor Carnival week. There are a whole host of events taking place throughout the week, including the two carnival processions.

Children’s Carnival
On Wednesday, the Children’s Carnival will assemble at Dudley Road at 11.30am, with the procession through town onto Ventnor Park at midday. The route will be Pier Street, High Street, Victoria Street, Albert Street, Pier Street, Church Street, Belgrave Road and Park Avenue.

The Crowning of the Carnival Queens and judging takes place in Ventnor Park (or St Catherine’s Church if there is wet weather).

Even if you don’t know anyone taking part, it’s a lovely parade to watch and a chance to cheer on the children and young people taking part.

Evening parade
The evening Carnival Parade (also on Wednesday) sees floats assemble in Dudley Road at 6pm, where the judging takes place before the processions begins at 7pm.

The route of the procession is Pier Street, High Street, Madeira Road, St Catherine Street, Victoria Street, Albert Street, Pier Street, Church Street, Belgrave Road and Park Avenue.

Who’s taking part?
As well as the many floats, both local and from other towns, the procession will include the Ventnor Comic Jazz Band, Vectis Corp of Drums, Medina Marching Band, Raw Samba and Fat Samba.

The fireworks display, sponsored by The Spyglass Inn, takes place usually around 9.30pm. Head to the seafront to wonder at the display.
