Ventnor Film Society returns for its Autumn Season

Thanks to Linda for this reminder. Ed

Ventnor Film Society returns on Tuesday 17th September with a new programme of acclaimed British and World films.

This season offers a varied programme with award-winning films from Britain, Chile, France, Italy, USA, Japan and Denmark including period drama, thrillers and comedy.

The Intouchables
Starting the season is the French box-office hit The Intouchables, the story of the unlikely friendship between a millionaire tetraplegic and the street-wise ex-con he hires as his carer.

After a paragliding accident, Philippe, a rich aristocrat, hires Driss, a young guy from the projects recently released from prison as his carer… in other words, the person least suited for the job.

Together they will blend Vivaldi and Earth, Wind and Fire, elegant diction and street jive, suits and sweatpants. Two worlds are going to collide and come to terms with each other to give birth to a friendship as crazy, comical and strong as it is unexpected, a unique relationship that will create sparks and make them… Untouchable.

Event listings for full season
Details of all films can be found on Events OnTheWight and on posters around the town, but there is also a new Website with full details of all films, links to reviews and trailers, and an online discussion page.

As last season, the screenings will be shown in the Ventnor Arts Club, which offers comfortable seating, HD projection and surround sound.

Reserve your seat
The venue proved very popular last season with more viewers than in previous years, so it is essential to reserve a seat by emailing [email protected].

Screenings take place on alternate Tuesdays at 7.30pm and latecomers will not be admitted. Entrance is £5 payable at the door and it is not necessary to be a member of the Arts Club to attend. Doors open at 6.30pm.

Informal discussion group
The new venue has added a more social element as viewers can meet up in the bar for drinks and sample the club chef’s light snacks before the film and stay on afterwards to chat.

This season we are planning to start up an informal discussion group after the film and welcome new faces as well as old friends.
