Filmmaker Pete Knapp will bring his documentary Fires and Fascism to Ventnor Arts Club next week.
The 57-minute film will screen on Thursday 11th December, followed by a Q&A with the director, and non-members are very welcome.
Exploring the forces behind Europe’s wildfires
Knapp’s documentary sets out to show that wildfires across Europe link not only to climate change but also to the actions of big business, organised crime, and the far right.
The film highlights community activity, rewilding projects, protest and direct action as practical ways people can build a safer and more sustainable future.
Knapp explains his intention to question what the term “far right” means today and to encourage people to come together at a time when vested interests divide society.
He says,
“The film is non-profit, independent and crowdfunded.
“It is my first film after leaving an academic career in air quality, where I felt storytelling could improve my societal impact.”
Strong reception across the country
Recent screenings have attracted overwhelmingly positive feedback, with some venues arranging additional showings.
The Picturehouse cinema chain has now included Fires and Fascism in its Green Screen programme, with screenings in Brighton, London, and Norwich.
Bristol audiences have already attended three screenings, and Bristol University plans to host further events.
