Ventnor lass, Laura Careless will be travelling to New Orleans in March to help victims of the horrendous hurricane, Katrina.
Laura is currently at the Juilliard School for the performing arts in New York (wowser!) and got involved when a colleague of hers, Caroline Fermin started the project.
About 20 students from the school will be joining Caroline and Laura as they expect to give hands on help for part of the day and then run after school programmes for the kiddies in the afternoon.
Laura is quoted as saying: “Working in the arts is all about creating something fun or beautiful from scratch. I hope we are able to give the children of New Orleans the opportunity to explore their own creativity, to help them express their feelings about their difficult situation and give their families a glimmer of hope that they will be able to rebuild their city and their lives.
Good for you!
But as with everything is life, the project desperately needs donations. Extra finance will help to fund food and supplies for the after school clubs.
Any spare cash is welcomed and you don’t have to go far to give it. Just pop into Careless and Kemp Solicitors at 19 Church Street, Ventnor. That’s just up the road to from the Post Office.
