Many thanks to Evelyn for this report from the recent Ventnor Town Council meeting. Ed
An early item on the agenda at Monday evening’s Ventnor Town Council resulted in eager comments from each member of the Council.
Community bid
The Localism update revealed what an encouraging turn around had resulted from the change in the Isle of Wight Council’s political administration.
No signed and sealed deals were in evidence as residents now have the opportunity to give its support to the Town Council as it makes its bid to retain the Town’s assets.
Ongoing Coastal Centre discussions
As we all know, the previous administration ignored any attempt by the local authority to retain the Coastal Centre. Now there will be ongoing discussions between the Town and the County to find the best way forward.
There will be correspondence sent out to all those who supported Town Council’s original proposals for the Coastal Centre so that, this time, your views will be taken into consideration.
There will also be emails sent out and invitations to comment put on the VTC website.
The Mayor, Steve Stubbings, commented on what a strong community we had in Ventnor and how valuable it was at times such as these.
‘Westminster Day’
Cllr Jason Mack is to be the town’s representative at the House of Commons for ‘Westminster Day’. Organised by Ventnor Business Association, this is the town’s opportunity to ‘market its services’.
Cllr Mack will report back to the Council his impressions of the day.
Low crime in Venntor
Cllr Mack also attends the local Police Liaison meetings and finds that Ventnor is very fortunate in having little crime to report.
Winter Gardens
A meeting to discuss the Winter Gardens is taking place on Thursday 18th July between the Mayor and Councillors and Officers of the Isle of Wight Council.
The Mayor hopes to have some news of action, although the general feeling was one of scepticism.
