Police on the Isle of Wight are appealing for information about a serious injury collision at Chale yesterday afternoon.
At around 4.30pm (Wednesday, September 21), a green Peugeot 406 was heading towards Freshwater on the A3055 Military Road.
Near to Hill Crest farm, it was in collision with a silver Ford Focus heading in the opposite direction.
18 Year Old Driver arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving
The Ford, driven by an 80-year-old man from Devon, was then in collision with a Vauxhall Corsa. He and his four passengers were shaken but uninjured.
The Peugeot came to rest on its side and the driver, an 18-year-old man from Freshwater, left the scene.
He was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and bailed pending further enquiries. He was treated for minor arm and leg injuries.
Serious injuries for Ventnor woman
The Vauxhall driver, a 59-year-old woman from Ventnor, was trapped in the vehicle for some time and had to be released by Fire and Rescue crews.
She was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment for serious injuries and she remains there in a critical but stable condition.
Sergeant Paul Bailey from the Roads Policing unit said: “As part of our appeal for information, I’m particularly interested in hearing from the driver of a small green car which I understand was on the Military Road heading towards Chale shortly before the incident.”
