Pierdom by Simon RobertsAs part of the Museums at Night initiative, Connect10 is offering the chance for museums, galleries, libraries, archives and heritage sites up and down the country to apply for a contemporary artist to visit their venue – for one evening only!

Museums at Night is the annual after hours celebration when hundreds of museums, galleries, libraries, archives and heritage sites up and down the country open their doors for special evening events. This year the event takes place from Friday 18 May – Sunday 20 May.

Quay Arts Centre shortlisted
Venues have put forward ideas to work with one of Connect10’s contemporary artists and the very best of those ideas have been selected to go forward to a public vote.

Quay Arts’ idea has been shortlisted to bring a Connect10 artist to the Isle of Wight, but we need Islanders’ votes to make it happen!

Here’s our idea
Simon Roberts is an internationally-acclaimed landscape and documentary photographer who spent a year crossing Russia and was Official Artist of the 2010 General Election.

He is currently completing a project, ‘Pierdom’, to photograph every UK seaside pier. There are 68 piers in the UK, four of which are on the Isle of Wight.

Submit your images of piers
Our proposal is for Simon to come to the Quay, give a talk about ‘Pierdom’ and parallel to this we are asking Islanders to submit their images of Island piers, taken from Friday 18 – Saturday 19 May, for their chance to win a prize!

We all know the Isle of Wight is a special place. Simon’s work, which captures the beauty of piers around the UK – four of which are on the Island – highlights this even further.

By voting, you could secure a chance for this acclaimed artist to come to the Island and enter our free photographic competition.

This isn’t just a talk – it’s about celebrating the nostalgic beauty of the Island, and a chance to get in involved, show off your talent and possibly even win.

Cast your vote
The vote closes at 5pm on March 5 2012. The winning venues and their events will be announced on March 6 2012.
