It’s not long now til the 2008 Isle of Wight Walking Festival (3rd May – details to follow shortly) kicks off.
You might remember reading about speed dating as part of the walking festival on VentnorBlog two years ago when we covered the debut event.
It has been a huge success and so far, has resulted in two marriages with another due in summer 2009!
We hear from Kellie White at IW Tourism that the first to tie the knot after meeting at the first-ever speed-dating walk in 2006 were Phillipa and Eric, with fellow-Islanders, Karen and Paul, following soon after when they married last month.
Lorraine and Colin, who also met on the 2006 event, now live together in Surrey and plan to marry in 2009.
Apparently Lorraine recently wrote to Elaine Cesar, the walking festival organiser, saying the Isle of Wight speed-dating walk has ‘changed my life’ since ‘meeting the man of my dreams’.
Elaine, from the Isle of Wight Council’s Event team, said:
‘Although our speed-dating walks have created many matches – we can now boast three perfect matches resulting in two weddings, with a third just announced for 2009! We give visitors the chance to meet the perfect person in the perfect surroundings, or just have a lot of fun with like-minded people’.
If you want to take part in the speed dating walk, pop over to the festival website to register now.
It starts at 2pm and is a circular, 4-mile/3-hour walk which starts and finishes at the Fisherman’s Cottage, a pub located in the picturesque setting of Luccombe Bay.
It’ll only cost you £5 (excludes refreshments).
