Watch: Bob Seely admits he hasn’t watched Harry and Meghan Netflix series that triggered him to plan legislation to strip them of royal titles

We’ve been a little late to covering Bob Seely, the Isle of Wight Conservative MP, doing his tour of the media and studios to tell the UK how unhappy he is with the new Harry and Meghan Netflix series.

The latest thing that brought him attention was that he wants to introduce a Private Members’ Bill to plan legislation to strip Harry and Meghan of their royal titles.

‘Trashing’ this country as ‘a racist hellhole’ claims
Yesterday afternoon (Friday) he appeared on LBC Radio where he expanded his view, claiming that Harry and Meghan were ‘trashing’ this country as ‘a racist hellhole’.

When the programme’s presenter, Shelagh Fogarty, pointed out to him that, after watching two of the three episodes, she hadn’t heard Harry or Meghan doing this, indeed, she felt it was quite the opposite.

Seely: “Tried watching bits”
It was then that it emerged that Bob hadn’t actually watched the series of three programmes. He said,

“I have tried watching bits of it, but I’ve been reaching for the sick bucket so much … sorry I shouldn’t be so rude.”

Presenter: Harry hadn’t said that
After this the presenter said, “He (Harry) certainly didn’t say this country was a racist hellhole”.

Seely replied,

“Well, let’s see. All the evidence … what I’ve seen coming out is he’s (saying) effectively there is a racist template that’s going to be put on this country.”

The presenter again said the programmes she’d seen were at odds with what Bob’d been reading and saying, he replied, “You and I have a different take”.

Trashing
During the ten minute conversation, quite a number of times, Bob repeated the phrase, “If he’s going to trash  …”, about Harry, alternating between ending it with, “his family”, “the institutions of this country”, “parts of our constitution”.

After some conversation, including the presenter restating that in the two or three episodes she’d watched, she hadn’t seen this ‘trashing’ in the programmes she’d watched. She went on to give past examples of other royals having said they haven’t liked the way the press has treated them.

Seely: “What I read”
Bob says

“I’m just going to have to have a difference of opinion, over what I see, what I read … endlessly about them.”

Prince Andrew
Near the end of the discussion Bob Seely is asked if Prince Andrew should be stripped of his title, Bob replied,

“That’s a really good question. I don’t know because he hasn’t actually been convicted of anything.”

Reaction
There has been over 450 comments on Twitter to this interview and reading through them, it doesn’t appear that many people on Twitter share Bob’s views and question whether this is the best use of an Isle of Wight MP’s time.
