Watch out for phone scammers claiming to be from Age Concern

The council issue this scam warning to Island residents. Please pass on. Ed

Our trading standards service has received some calls about a scam involving phone calls to people’s home from someone claiming to be from Age Concern’s Sandown Branch. The caller, who has an Indian accent, asks for cash donations to be made.

This is a scam and is not a genuine call. Age Concern is now called Age UK, it does not have a Sandown branch, and the organisation does not use Indian call centres.

If you are contacted by someone claiming to be from Age Concern Sandown Branch, hang up the call and do not provide your personal details.

If you are worried about scams, you can contact our trading standards service via 821000 or online at www.iwight.com/Business/Trading-Standards/Trading-Standards
