Waterside Community Trust Poised To Take Over Pool

Readers may remember the long-running saga of the future of Waterside Pool in Ryde after the council voted to cease funding from 31st March 2011. Keith Gentleman provides an update, in his own words. Ed

Waterside PoolWaterside Community Trust is the new body poised to take over the running of Waterside Pool

Waterside Action Group, the single interest body that came together to oppose Isle of Wight Council’s decision taken last year to close the swimming pool on Ryde Esplanade has changed its name.

Reasons for name change
A name change became necessary for three reasons:-

  1. The action group set up late last year to fight the closure of Waterside Pool is now required to establish as a formal organisation with a board of directors.
  2. The company name ‘Waterside Action Group’ was already registered at Company House.
  3. It is felt that the new name correctly projects the intention of the group – to run the swimming pool entrusted to the group on behalf of the community

The name chosen to take the project of saving Waterside Pool forward and to eventually, with your support, operate it on behalf of the people of Ryde and our island is ‘Waterside Community Trust’.

‘Waterside Community Trust’ or ‘WCT’ is registering at Company House. WCT is constituted as a ‘Not for Profit Company Limited by Guarantee’.

Appeal for volunteers
We would like once again to thank all of our supporters and pool users, many of whom have volunteered their time and their skills by registering their contact details at the pool Reception Desk.

As a group we are still seeking a volunteer with software/programming skills to help in the lead up to transfer and after.
