Weekly update of Isle of Wight Covid-19 figures: Deaths, hospitalisations, vaccinations and age breakdowns of positive tests

Due to the recent change in provision of free Covid-19 testing and the likely skew in the positive case figures, News OnTheWight’s comprehensive Covid-19 reports will now feature other, more reliable data first.

Data provided by official sources for latest positive cases age breakdown and trends can be found further on in the report.

Deaths
The Office for National Statistics report three new deaths during week 13 (deaths that occurred up to 1ast April 2022, but were registered up to 9th April 2022). One took place in a care home, one at someone’s home and the last in the hospital.

As of 1st April, the cumulative number of deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate on the Isle of Wight was 406.

As of 12th April 2022, the Government Dashboard records the total number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test was 370.

Covid patients in hospital
The Covid dashboard shows that as of 5th April the number of Covid-19 patients in hospital was 42.

The Government dashboard also reports one of those Covid patients is relying on mechanical ventilation.

Vaccinations
The number of Covid-19 vaccinations given on the Isle of Wight totals 313,517.

The total number of people who have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, reported up to 11th April 2022 was 113,742.

The total number of people who have received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine, reported up to 11th April 2022 was 108,621.

The total number of people who have received a booster or third dose of Covid-19 vaccine, reported up to 11th April 2022 was 91,154.

Confirmed positive cases
The latest confirmed data for the number of new positive Coronavirus (Covid-19) tests over seven days (5th to 11th April) on the Isle of Wight totals 595 – a rate per 100,000 population of 421.99.

61 of those are thought to be reinfections (ie. people who have had Covid before and caught it again).

The cumulative total since the pandemic began now stands at 39,488 – a rate per 100,000 population of 28,005.67.

Age breakdown
The table below shows the breakdown of positive Covid-19 tests over the last week for under 20s, 20-59 year olds and 60+ compared to the previous week.

Symptoms
The main symptoms of Coronavirus are:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

Other symptoms linked with Covid-19 include shortness of breath, fatigue, loss of appetite, muscle ache, sore throat, headache, stuffy or runny nose, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. Any of these symptoms may also have another cause.
