Weston Manor: The Background: Podcast Part 1/3

Weston Manor: The Background: PodcastIn the middle of January we took ourselves over to the West of Wight to see Chris & Hilary Jarman in Freshwater.

They, and a number of other West Wight residents, were becoming ever-more concerned over the potential uses of Weston Manor, as the Real World Trust proposed using it as an alcohol and drugs rehabilitation centre, with – let’s be generous – what appeared as minimal consultation with locals.

We’ve split the half hour recording into three sections, where Chris provides huge amount of detail, not only laying out the issues for the locals, but also what appears to be confusing inconsistencies between the council and the RWT, such as the lack of request for planning permission for a change of use on the building.

In the time between the recordings and now, you may have seen that The Real Trust pulled out of the Weston Manor project citing problems. Those members of the public who attended the last meeting between the Real World Trust and Council official were stunned when there appeared to be significant misunderstandings between the two of them, as to the planning permission required on the site. By coincidence, the CP have also covered The Real World Trust today as well.

Meeting on Tuesday evening
There’s a public meeting this Tuesday evening, where there’s going to be a lot of discussion as to what the Weston Manor can now be used for. Everyone will be welcome we hear.
