Wet leg video frame - Rhian and Hester looking down into camera lightened

Wet Leg’s debut album hits UK #1 in its first week! (Updated)

They’ve only gone and done it!

One week on from the launch of their debut self-titled album, Wet Leg are the top of the UK album chart.

As far as we can tell, this makes WetLeg the Isle of Wight band with the highest charting record – and the first Island band who’ve had a number 1 album.

Who are Wet Leg?
Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, along with Ellis Durand on bass, Henry Holmes on drums and Josh Mobaraki on guitar and synth, have been touring the UK and US over the last year, playing to festival and sold out audiences, sharing their love from the Island.

Just a laugh
“Wet Leg was originally just supposed to be funny” says Rhian.

We remember seeing them play live back in 2019 at Rhythmtree Festival on the Island. And then again at The Rose in Ventnor, supporting the equally excellent, Fat Earthers.

More and more people are now in on the joke with the two of them, but that spirit remains at the centre of what they do. “Home is now behind you. The world is ahead” concludes Hester.

Five star reviews
The album has received some incredible reviews from around the globe.

It’s not surprising really, as it was the culmination of a lot of hard work and two or three years in the making. For a first album, it’s incredibly well-produced.

We’re sure it must have been excruciating for the band to have had to sit on it for the last year, but of course, all those who attended their sell-out shows in the UK and US will have been treated to the full repertoire.
