On Wednesday 22nd May, three Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team riders headed over to the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth for number three in the Summer Series.
Kev Foster lined up in the combined third-fourth category race as he continues his quest to move up to third category. Determined to make this race count, Foster worked hard to get in several breakaway attempts, but as is so often the case with these races, none of them stuck.
Strong showing
The race came down to the inevitable and usual sprint finish, where Foster put in a strong showing, but just missed out on the top ten finish he was after.
Following this was the Elite, first and second category race. Lining up for Wightlink-LCM Systems were James Ebdon and Sam Baker. Keen to put their recent training block to good use, and wanting to test their form before the road races begin on Sunday 26th May, Ebdon and Baker were active in numerous breakaway attempts.
Top ten finish for Ebdon
The most successful of these breakaway attempts saw Ebdon and three other riders gain half a lap on the main field. Realising the danger in this move, the larger teams came to the front of the peloton and drove the pace until the catch was made.
Coming into the final sprint, both riders were well positioned. Baker lead Ebdon out for the sprint, and Ebdon converted this great team work with a top ten finish.
