Wightlink Staff Vote: Prepared To Take Industrial Action (Update 2)

The results of the ballot of the Wightlink RMT members on the Portmouth route are just in.

Wightlink car FerryThe overwhelming majority of those who voted said that they are prepared to take industrial action (86%), with nearly three quarters of them voting that they are prepared to take strike action (74%).

It all circles around the sacking of union rep Paul Kelly, which he and his union say is a case of unfair dismissal.

UPDATE 13:30: Wightlink have just reacted with the following …

Wightlink has been advised by the RMT that the recent ballot which closed today (14 December), supports strike action, 174 members of staff on the Portsmouth route were balloted and 87 voted in favour of strike action. As yet, no industrial action has been announced.

Further details will be announced in due course and customers can be reassured that Wightlink is doing everything in its power to minimise any inconvenience to its passengers.
