Words over the Solent event features writers, poets, storytellers and lots more

This coming weekend sees a series of events take place in Ryde as part of celebrations for World Book Day.

Jenna Sabine from Monkton Arts Cafe and Venue explains,

“We, at Monkton Arts in Ryde have put together a programme of events to celebrate the 25th anniversary of World Book Day. All of the events are this coming Saturday 5th March.

“We have secured 50 per cent off for passengers wanting to come over from Southsea and Portsmouth using Hovertravel, and 50 per cent off for us to go over the Solent on 12th March for a programme of word related activities including Portsmouth Book Fest 2022.”  

Programme of events
There is a whole programme of events over a few locations around Ryde.

This includes:

  • Free Storytelling sessions on a Story Bus
  • Photo booth 
  • World Book Day costume competition 
  • Author’s Market (Including Hunter Davis!)
  • An Interview with Margarette Rose (subject of Beyond The Wire) 
  • An evening of Singer Songwriting 
  • Spoken word and poetry line-up
  • LGBTQ+ Book Launch and Poetry reading with local bands
  • Poetry Workshops for adults 
  • Storytelling Workshop for Children 
  • Book Artist Display
