Yarmouth Harbour today completed installation of their brand new Rib Pontoons.
Finished on schedule in time for the Easter holidays, the new pontoons were designed for use by ribs and small craft in the busy lunchtime period; allowing them to enter the harbour and berth as conveniently and quickly as possible.
Increase time in town
The intention is to increase the time spent on the water and in the town, improve safety for all harbour users, and reduce the time spent tying up.
Installed by Walcon Marine, and planned and overseen by Marina Projects, the pontoons will accommodate 50 ribs during the day and can berth 15 ten-metre vessels overnight. Heavy-duty pontoons were chosen in order to provide additional protection to moorings inside the harbour. Fully fitted with power and water, the pontoons lie very close to the town, adjacent to the RNLI lifeboat berth.
Charlotte Hudson, Deputy Harbourmaster who project managed the installation, said “These pontoons provide much-needed, safer, easily accessible berths for ribs and small vessels and are a vast improvement for the harbour. There is no longer any need to clamber up slippery steps or ladders on the dockside.”
Yarmouth Harbour has spent more than £1.5million on improvements in the last year, retaining the harbour’s unique, old-world charm whilst raising standards in accessibility, safety, and comfort.
