South Wight Area Youth (SWAY) have set a challenging month of climbing, learning and sponsored fundraising for the Charity.
Over the month of February a list of 14 walks, record sheets and readings are planned for the young people involved with the charity.
Three Peaks equivalent
SWAY has revealed an array of options to achieve a climb of 3362m during February.
The combination of 14 climbs in the South Wight are the equivalent of climbing the Three National Peaks: Sca Fell, Snowdon and Ben Nevis.
Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards
Those taking part can achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold Level Awards in line with the Winter games.
Included in the schedule is a night walk and a special challenge of Three Peaks in 30 hours over 22nd and 23rd February, with an option for a shorter climb in 12 hours.
Families are encouraged to take part with two family walks on 13th and the 26th February.
What is SWAY?
SWAY runs youth activities and supports young people and families across the South Wight.
The youth groups meet in the villages with other activities and events across the Island and on the mainland. Some young people meet the youth workers for 1-1 mentoring and families are supported through a range of services.
Dorning: Combining fundraising with the element of competition
Andy Dorning, Lead Youth Worker says,
“We all enjoyed the ‘Hike at Home’ so much that we wanted to do something else with the young people and friends.
“So we came up with this challenge combining fundraising with the element of competition.”
