A band of eagle-eyed youngsters may have averted a fire spreading at the bottom of Ventnor Downs this afternoon.
The group of four, aged between 10 and 13, told VB they had spotted the fire just before 5pm and called 999. Firefighters arrived fifteen minutes later and were able to extinguish the fire.
The firefighters from Shanklin praised the young people for their quick thinking in calling 999.
