Glenn Martin with his plastic bottle sculpture

Your clear plastic bottles needed for Ammonite carnival sculpture

Isle of Wight artist, Glenn Martin, needs our help. If you have any spare clear plastic bottles, he’d very much appreciate them for this sculpture he’s creating for Sandown Carnival.

The sculpture aims to raise awareness of single use plastic littering our seas and beaches. Glenn explained to News OnTheWight,

“I have been planning this for a couple of years, but it was hampered by Covid etc.

“As a keen fossil hunter I go down Chale Bay a lot, which is a hot spot for plastic bottles washing up.”

He added that the sculpture is based on an Ammonite fossil, which are a common find on the Isle of Wight, especially at Chale Bay.

Will hold 12,000 bottles
Glenn said,

“I needed to collect far more plastic bottles than I could ever collect in time off the beaches so I have been asking for anyone in the Sandown area to collect for me.

“The piece will hold around 12,000 bottles when complete.”

Your plastic bottles needed
He’s still in need of more clear plastic bottles to complete the sculpture, so if you have any spare clear plastic bottles, please drop them off in the food shed outside the Wildheart Trust (formerly Isle of Wight Zoo) in Yaverland.

A new sculpture by Glenn has recently been installed at Blackgang Viewpoint and you might remember the dragon sculpture he helped students create back in 2010 that sat on Coppins Bridge roundabout.
