      Brighstone Library’s new hours are Tuesday 9.00 – 12.30, Thursday 1.30- 5.00, Saturday 2.00 – 5.00.
Anyone got any idea what is happening to all these librarians who are having their hours cut?
Has anyone heard what is happening about the Legal Challenge?

waiting on reply from council as to the challenge, they need time to cover their tracks, librarians have had to reapply for limited jobs within the service ,some will be made redundant, though parish councils/community groups must be warned that it will not be easy to take over any library, because of tupe, something astrid davies has not prepared them for, keeping them in the dark.. it is a shame that caring people in the community can be taken such advantaged of.

They did indeed try to keep quiet about TUPE for a long time, but news spreads fast.
It is also bad that Steve Benyon is claiming that the groups trying to get the volunteers together are saving the libraries for the council.
This is just not the case. Faced with having no library, there is little choice but to save them with volunteers, but at the same time deplore the cuts and support the legal challenge.

Still no idea about Shanklin Library opening hours and despite an email to this effect to Pugh, Brown and Williams they have made no attempt to reply
So the four weeks notice is a no no
Typical of this lot at County Hall – why are we paying them!!!!

Thanks for this VB, Sandown has issued a list of its new times too. It’s not going to be easy remembering all these different opening times without printing them out and keeping them to hand. I feel sorry for the library staff trying to hold it all together.

East Cowes are to be Monday 9.30-12.30 & 1.30-5.00
    Tuesday closed
    Wednesday 9.00-1.00
    Thursday 11.30-6.00
    Friday closed
    Saturday 9.00-1.00

I’m hoping that the court injunction will not only force them to stop all plans and negotiations but also force them to return to the hours we have now rather than these new ones!!

Once again the IOW Council has made a mess of things
Shanklin Library users AND staff do not yet know what the opening hours will be as of next week

I understand that other libraries ie Cowes and Ventnor have been told ONLY THIS WEEK.
However bearing in mind that books are issued for THREE WEEKS and some people only visit once every three weeks surely the IOW Council should have given at least this time (or maybe a month) to inform readers of the intended changes -IF they are to take place (pending legal action in progress).
I can see that some people will turn up next week to find the doors closed. If these are elederly people or those who have travelled some distance I would think that they will be very very angry
I think the council need to rethink their actions very quickly to rectify this matter
