Tony Suckling, fundraiser for Ryde Saint Youth FC and also the IOWYFA club, is in the initial stages of pulling together a Sponsored Penalty Shoot to help raise funds for all Isle of Wight youth football clubs.
Plans are coming together for the event to take place on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th May 2014.
The competition will be open to all youth football teams from Under 7s to Under 16s.
The idea is that each participant will be given a sponsor form, so that they can get sponsors for each penalty scored or saved for goalkeepers.
In the competition,
Each player gets the chance to take 20 penalties in total and the goalkeeper’s scores will be worked as percentage of saves made to shots taken. Each player will take a minimum of two penalties at each goalkeeper depending on the amount of keepers participating.
The players in each age group will also compete for the most penalties scored and the winner and runner up will receive trophies.
The best goalkeeper in each age group will have a chance of receiving a winner’s trophy.
The whole event will be run on a not-for-profit basis, with the aim of specifically raising funds for the Island’s youth football teams.
