Letter to the Editor: New bus timetable, old habits

We always welcome a Letter to the Editor to share with our readers. If you have something you’d like to share, get in touch. This letter from Evelyn Knowles from Ventnor. Ed

It’s that time of the year when, once again, Ventnor is treated by Southern Vectis as the poor relation.

It has been bad enough that the bus stop was removed from Shanklin Station forecourt to the side street. This left the travelling public having to wait where there is a total lack of shelter after their travel from the ferry.

This was supposed to be temporary, but that must have been said to make all those who put up with it during the wet deluge feel better. Apparently it’s semi-permanent, so read, “We’re doing nothing about it”.

Connections dropped and price increases
The new exciting edition of the timetable removes half the daytime connections at Shanklin station.

And then, I’m told from 18th of May, they are raising the single fare between Shanklin and Ventnor by 20%. How’s that for charging more for a worse service!

It must be very comfortable to have such a monopoly and have no responsibility towards your customers.

Alright for some
Oh yes, and the IW Council, recently put funding towards a bus ‘connection’ between Sandown station town centre and the sea front.

Won’t that be nice. Remember the no.16?
