A recommendation to request further information about the proposed Navitus Bay offshore wind farm is being presented to members of the Planning Committee tomorrow (Tuesday).
Members of the committee will be considering the application for 194 wind turbines, covering 153 square kilometres, off the west coast of the Isle of Wight.
Planning officers have suggested the main considerations should be:
- The Council’s role in the application process
- The sustainability benefits of the proposed development
- Impact on the character of the Island’s landscape, seascape and AONB
- Impact on ecological interests
- Coastal management and geology
- Health issues
- Impact on cultural heritage (on and off-shore)
- Economic impacts
This is a complex application with much to take into account. The formal recommendation is:
No objection but to request further information in respect of matters relating to noise and ecology as summarised in paragraphs 7.2 to 7.5 above. That the decision maker should carefully balance the renewable energy benefits of the proposal development 59
