EE 4G arrives on the Isle of Wight – Just not where you’d expect

OnTheWight has been mapping Isle of Wight 4G coverage for a while now, but given it’s not exactly plentiful, when some more comes to the Island it quite big news.

Andrew Day (@iwpianotuner) got in touch over the weekend to announce that he thought he’d discovered EE had 4G on the Island.

Now EE 4G is even bigger news, because previously they’d left the Isle of Wight to scrabble around picking up bits of reception as and where we could leech it from the Mainland – so mainly little patches in Ryde.

Andrew had discovered that EE were chucking 4G coverage all over Freshwater, Yarmouth and adjoining areas of the West of the Island. It looks like there’s also a splodge or two in Calbourne – where the higher ground is, most likely.

EE tell OnTheWight that Freshwater is “part of an ongoing rollout in the Isle of Wight”, so there’s hope for more to come. No official words as to where or when, but at least it’s started.
