Jubilee cat from London

From tube station meanderer to head mouse catcher on the Isle of Wight

We love this story shared with OnTheWight from Lydia at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. Ed

A meandering moggie from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, Old Windsor, has found a permanent home on the Isle of Wight, after being found in a London Underground station in Acton.

The friendly feline, named Jubilee by Battersea staff, was found as a stray wandering the west London tube station. Although it’s not known exactly how long she had been visiting the Underground, she was seen at the station numerous times before she was taken to Battersea’s Berkshire centre.

Keeping tube staff company
Jubilee was well-known among London Underground staff and kept them company during their shifts in Acton Town, with one staff member saying:

“It became a conversation topic with staff, and the cat became a little bit rounder because we all fed and watered her so well!”

From station cat to stable cat
Jubilee waited almost 60 days for a home, which is over double the average stay for a cat in Battersea’s care, before being spotted by Lisa Blackmoor from Ryde. Lisa was looking for a cat for her stables and Jubilee seemed to be the perfect pet.

That meant a change of transport for Jubilee as she swapped her beloved London Underground for the cross-Solent ferry. She travelled over 80 miles to her new home where she now prowls the livery yard.

From Jubilee to Ruby
As well as a new home, Jubilee has a new name: Ruby. Lisa says:

“I can’t believe how well she’s settled in with us. She meets me every morning and sits on the stable doors when I come to feed the horses – she follows me everywhere. She’s doing a great job of catching mice and is even the boss of my three Jack Russell Terriers, including Fenton who came from Battersea two years ago. She’s just lovely and will have a wonderful life with us.”

Tamara Willis, Rehomer at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, says:

“Jubilee has definitely found a special home with Lisa. It’s not every day a cat is brought to us after being found in the London Underground, so we couldn’t be happier that she’ll have a new start in life. We rehome animals all across the UK and Lisa had exactly the type of home Jubilee needed – it was the perfect fit. I’m sure she’ll have a fantastic time wandering around the stables and keeping an eye on the horses.”
