Ventnor Town Council approve plans to take on four car parks

Congratulations to Ventnor Town council (VTC) for approving plans to take on the running of four car parks in the town.

Fully embracing the concept of localism, subject to contracts being finalised with the Isle of Wight council (IWC), from 1st April 2015 the VTC will be taking on car parks in Dudley Rd, Market St, Pound Lane and Shore Rd, Bonchurch.

Scope to increase current income
The VTC will pay a pre-agreed rent to the IWC, which has been calculated based on the current level of parking income from those car parks.

This move is considered a low-level of risk by the VTC, as they say there’s plenty of scope to increase the capacity and use of the four car parks. Any income above the pre-agreed level will go to the VTC to support other community services.

Community use
At a VTC meeting Cllrs Leigh Geddes and Brian Lucas both welcomed the opportunity the
development offered for wider social and community uses of these spaces.

This could include car boot sales ocassional markets and even open air cinemas in the summer months.

At the meeting, Cllr Steve Stubbings complimented Jason Mack (the Mayor) and David Bartlett (clerk) for their work in progressing this development and said that it could provide a model to be applied elsewhere.
