Thorncross CCTV warning 170815

Best behaviour now: Island Roads might be filming you

If you travel around the Isle of Wight a lot, you might have noticed some new roadworks signage.

This sign above, pictured at Thorncross, near Brighstone, was sent to us earlier this week.

It reveals that portable CCTV cameras are being used at roadworks on the Island.

Why?
Apparently roadwork crews are wearing body-worn cameras to catch drivers who ignore the Stop/Go signs.

However, it’s not just for that reason. According to our source, they’re also being used to record “verbal abuse” from passers-by.

We’ve yet to hear the official word back from Island Roads, but will update with their response to a series of questions we’ve asked.
