St. Olave’s Church in Gatcombe is marking the successful conclusion of its project to provide a disabled access toilet and a food service area by holding an informal event on the evening of Saturday 23rd April to thank all those who have supported the initiative.

A total of £25,651.47 was raised and the new kitchen and disabled toilet were completed and handed over to the church in late 2015 by the Island builder GJ Banks.

Marcus Bagg, the Rector of the Church, stated that,

“We have invited all those who have contributed to the project to come along to the church and see the improvements that have been achieved which are making a real difference in securing wider use of the church.

“We are of course, indebted to the Diocese of Portsmouth’s Mission Opportunities Fund, and Hampshire and the Islands Historic Churches Trust, both of which made very generous grants towards the cost of the scheme. Above all however, we wanted to thank our local community for their amazing support which has made this development possible.”
