1st Godshill Scouts, Beavers and Cubs trip to Robin Hill

1st Godshill and Rookley Scout Group bounce back from pandemic

On Tuesday (10th August), 1st Godshill and Rookley Scout Group took a trip to Robin Hill to celebrate all of the amazing work they have collectively achieved over the last two years.

With over 60 young people, from the Beaver, Cubs, Scouts and Young Leader section, along with leaders and parent helpers attending – the group managed to have a whale of a time.

Everyone enjoyed walking around and seeing the beauty of the country park, watching the 4D Cinema, riding on the Toboggan and much more.

Lots to see and do
The Beavers went around the park all together, whilst the Cubs enjoyed the attraction in smaller groups with two leaders each and the Scouts had a little more independence; they were allowed to go around in groups without an adult.

They all met up and had a big picnic half way through the day, which was lovely to see so many young people having a good time – enjoying the company of each other whilst relaxing.

Birds of Prey
Later in the day, all of the groups met up again to watch the 2.45pm falconry display where they saw three birds of prey flying around and doing tricks.

Keiran O’Toole, Cub Scout Leader, said,

“It was absolutely phenomenal to get back to doing face-2-face activities after the lockdown. The Scouts and Cubs enjoyed a camping trip the nights before and after our trip.

“A massive thank you to all of our leaders and parent helpers, without you we wouldn’t have the ability to run these activities.”

“Soooooo” much fun
One Cub said during the closing ceremony of camp,

“My favourite part of camp was going on the toboggan at Robin Hill and spending time with friends.”

Thanks to bus co
The group would like to say a big thank you to Southern Vectis who kindly donated the use of a double decker bus to transport all of the attendees to and from Robin Hill from the Scout Hut in Godshill.

Throughout the lockdown, the group managed to secure a number of grants for their charity which has enabled them to do some much needed maintenance on their hall and grounds but it has also meant they can put on events like this at no cost to their members.
