51 Council Staff Earn £50,000+

CP journalist Ross Findon had a piece in last week’s County Press asking, “Who is on the council rich list?”

51 Council Staff Earn £50,000+It was based on information that councils across the UK now have to disclose thanks to new legislation. In particular which roles at councils have staff earning over £50,000.

Turns out that 51 people at the Isle of Wight council earn over £50,000.

The original intention of the government legislation was that they’d all be named, but due to an outcry from the local councils (claiming those names might be attacked), it’s just job titles that are available.

A back-of-an-envelope calculation shows that the total salary bill for them comes to a minimum of £2,700,000. VB will endeavour to find out that the actual bill is.

Three staff over £100,000
According to the Taxpayers’ Alliances, three people working at County Hall are paid over £100,000.

  • Stuart Love, director of environment and neighbourhoods, who was paid £110,235.
  • Davina Fiore, director of legal and democratic services, who was paid £100,786.
  • Steve Beynon, chief executive, who is paid something under £150,000.

You may remember the CP ran a story a month and a half ago saying the was taking a pay cut and declining a pay rise, taking his salary under £150,000.

With the new legislation, if he had earned over £150,000, he would have been named.
