Budget Cuts: Planning & Building Control Could Merge With Portsmouth and Southampton Councils (proposal)

Planning services may be merged with Portsmouth and Southampton City Councils.

architect plansWe have just seen the full Isle of Wight council cut proposals which have just been outlined in preparation of the December Cabinet Meeting.

Here’s what they say about the Planning service …

Planning services. This service has recently undergone significant review which has led to a reduction in staff and costs and an improved level of service / satisfaction. However, the Government has proposed a number of changes regarding planning consent which may lead to the need for further review of resources.

As a result work has been undertaken with Portsmouth and Southampton City Council to explore how the existing expertise in each authority can be shared to reduce costs further.

More work will need to be undertaken but in the meantime it is proposed to bring responsibility for housing and transport policy into Planning Services.

Building Control will be subject to discussion with Portsmouth and Southampton City Councils.

However, in the meantime further options for reducing the cost of this service will be considered.
