The Cancer Research fund-raising Race for Life event scheduled for 29 July on the Isle of Wight has had to be cancelled.
Having carried out an inspection of the site with the council, the charity decided they had no option but put a stop to it due to the state of the ground after the Isle of Wight Festival and concerns of further heavy rain.
Couldn’t repair ground in time
Many options were considered but it was thought that there wasn’t sufficient time to repair the ground before the event.
Rachel White, the Isle of Wight Race for Life event manager, said, “We are very sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience caused. The health and safety of our participants has to come first so we hope that everyone understands why we have had to take this decision.
You can still raise money
“All participants will be contacted by Cancer Research UK and we will do our utmost to ensure they can take part in an alternative event. If they wish to speak to someone sooner, we ask that they call the Race for Life hotline on 0871 641 1111 for assistance.”
Suggestions include doing the 5k at a gym or if you still want to run outside, you can transfer to another events, like the one happening in Portsmouth on the 22 July.
