Readers will remember that members of the Appeals Sub Committee were due to consider the proposed registration of land at Yarmouth Recreation Ground, ‘The Rec’ Yarmouth, as a Town or Village Green last Friday morning.
Yarmouth resident Peter Scott, who proposed the registration, told OnTheWight the meeting had to be adjourned.
Not enough time given
Mr Scott said that according to the council’s legal team, Isle of Wight council had not given the Yarmouth Town Trust enough time to prepare for the meeting.
Had the meeting gone ahead, the Trust would have been able to appeal any decision, arguing that the lack of time to prepare would’ve affected their natural justice.
The chairman of the committee, Cllr Colin Richards, had no choice but to listen to the council’s legal team and adjourn the meeting.
Agreement on pavilion footprint needed
Mr Scott has confirmed that he and the Trust must now agree on the size of the footprint for a new Pavilion prior to 20 January 2014.
According to Mr Scott, several of the Trustees do not live on the Island, possibly leading to delays in getting everyone together, but he said he’d do his best to ensure he was available when needed.
