We saw some footage today that we just had to share with you, as it lets you see the Isle of Wight as you might not have seen before.
As you know, OnTheWight has previously published footage of the Isle of Wight from the air, when Wight Wings sent their Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) over Headon Warren to see the landslip.
Super high-spec camera
The footage (below) was shot last month by a London production company for inclusion in a documentary about the last ever America’s Cup race.
The setup used an extremely expensive and high-spec camera, made by Red. The extra weight of the camera (13-14Kg) meant the UAV to lift it needed to be significantly more powerful to get it – and keep it – stable in the air.
OnTheWight spoke to Adam Docker, director at Red Earth Studio about why they were shooting on the Isle of Wight, “It’s got such a strong association with the world of sailing – Cowes, the Royal Yacht Squadron and the Needles are iconic.”
The ‘making of’ video
Rather than use helicopters, they used UAVs, or Drones as they’re sometimes called. “We used drones as they allowed us to get to places that no helicopter could get to,” Adam explained.
The video shows not only snippets of aerial footage, but gives lots of detail about how the team went about the process.
