Well let’s face it, old Priesty was basically Pugh bait, like the Chocolate drop on the political mousetrap to lure in the punters.

No sign of a role for Richard Priest then. That’s interesting. Was it not said on here a while ago that he was a tory in independent’s clothing?

Maybe he deserves a break after successfully delivering Education from the doldrums.

I think Hampshire County Council have had a lot to do with that. And what about his sidekick, Cllr Gilbey ?

Agree about Hampshire. The schools were in such a dire state that anyone coming in to that role was bound to look good because the only way was up!

As for Gilbey, I think he’s busy flipping fried eggs in The Paramount.

Errr, was it only in April that Jon Gilbey was described by the leader as the best man for over viewing finance.

Wha’appened?

I’ve been curious as to how someone who runs a greasy-spoon has the skills and knowhow to be in charge of multi-million pound budgets and have enough gumption to ensure the pfi is kept in order.

@tryme – my irony-ometer is malfunctioning tonight so I am not sure whether you are being serious or not? He isn’t taking a break after a successful (if short) stint – he’s been sacked for plotting to be Leader. And education on the Island is still a mess. But as I say, if you are being ironic I apologise for taking issue!

Well at last someone’s come out with what the rumour is! I still don’t know if it’s true. I’d say Cllr Priest had a lot to do with what recently were acknowledged to be measurable improvements in the Island’s results, seeing as that was his portfolio, Hampshire helping or not. I wonder about the mess some people here would make of that role if they’d been helicoptered… Read more »

Curiouser and curiouser, evidence of a failed coup?

Maybe no coup planned in the first place! Things do get curious if you treat conjecture as truth. I like a good rumour myself, but I remind myself there might be nothing in it.

There was a coup attempt – perhaps it is something in the water in Shanklin as Pugh tried same with Andy Sutton but perhaps DP was just better at plotting as his obviously worked :)

Tory “Men in Grey” are more skilled at coups as Thatcher found out and Cameron is likely to fnd out if Scotland votes “Yes”!

(That said, however, ICWA failed in its attempt to oust Turner earlier this year).

Well let’s hope it’s a failed one. Perhaps Ian Stephens became suspicious, and did some investigating, when Chris Whitehouse, for no apparent reason last night, began excitedly Tweeting about Cllrs Priest and Gilbey being “men of principle” “hashtag respect”. What had the pair done to earn this manufactured halo? Well they left the room when Davina Fiore told them they needed to, because something in which they… Read more »

The subject was boringly routine, Tryme, so boring that its exact nature escapes me. The point is though, that Cllr Whitehouse seemed to find a sudden and urgent need to heap praise on the two of them for no good reason. Remember that OTW’s story earlier this week wasn’t about a coup to replace Stephens with Priest or Gilbey. It was about a plan for four of… Read more »

“Men of principle” – translated as “people who agree with me”. Shame about Richard Priest in some ways – I always hoped that the rumours that he was just a Tory who was too embarrassed to admit it were wrong.

Rearranging the chairs on the Titanic. Looking at the new list the only appointment I think worthwhile is councillor Kendall who has actual experience of the post he finds himself in.

Nearly 18 months in and they still have no idea. Time for a change at the top, that will not happen all the time he surrounds himself with the usual suspects.

Gordon Kendall has been in that role for a long time – it’s not new.

It is surprising to see Jonathan Bacon move over to Education, but I’m sure he’ll do a decent job of it.

The big question is who will be given Finance and PFI if Gilbey ‘is’ out?

“Details of the other Executive posts … will follow in due course.”

This, to me, looks like a rush decision.

Surely if you do a reshuffle, you do the whole thing at once, n’est-ce pas?

The danger is that when you reshuffle a political pack, the jokers often come out on top! :-))

Seems this is just the opening shot in an interesting power struggle. IW Radio has an e-mail from Cllr Gilbey to Ian Stephens.

Cllr Kendall has resigned now from the Executive and says he will probably leave the Independents.
