An Isle of Wight community skate club has made it onto the shortlist of the Jewson Building Better Communities competition.
There’s a top prize nationally worth £150,000, which will see a building created or renovated, plus a number of regional winners who get to share the £100,000 prize fund, with each receiving between £500 and £10,000 worth of building materials.
John Cattle’s Skate Club
It’s great to hear that John Cattle’s Skate Club, whose base is a disused church hall, has been shortlisted in the competition.
A year-round, all weather, purpose-built training skate park has already been created inside, but as you can see from the photos, the building is in need of some maintenance.
Materials cost money and in this case, quite a lot. That’s where the Jewson competition comes in.
Cast your vote
Help John’s SkateClub become one of the winners by casting your vote through Facebook.
Make sure you’re logged into Faceook, head over to the competition page and Like the post.
Voila! Your vote is cast.
For some reason the voting doesn’t seem to work properly from a mobile handset, so try and get to a computer or tablet to cast your vote.
Share, share, share
If you don’t have a Facebook account but know someone who does, please pass them the link to this article.
At time of publishing, the Skate Club had 39 votes, but a Rugby Club in Stroud had 110, so please share this post as much as you can and let’s help get some of that money here on the Island for our skaters, young and old(er).
